Pictures for the Print Edition of KIWIRIDER
2010 for print.
It's an interesting part of the job now. Whittling down the thousands of images collected over a 5 meeting event. Only a few can be included in the Print Edition of KR, so it's a matter of trying to make each pic worth as close to the thousand words as possible. For that I mainly 'focussed' on the race winners and I still ended up with 3 times as many pics as required by the Ed's brief. Here's just some of the selection dilemmas I faced.

A Beach Mood
This year was as close as I've seen to the colours of the original pics of Burt racing as they are displayed the Southland Museum.
The sea mist rolled in before a change to showery conditions.
And they're off!
Good colour and Jason Feaver in front.
Always nice to get an 'artsy' one of the race winner.
or the stock winning shot, although it was raining and pretty gloomy
And I like the speed in this one
Sand = action
Aussie Chris Watson was a 'sideshow' all on his own. His long tracker gapped pretty much everything it raced too.
This great clarity out of the D90 in this one.
Solid image of 2008 winner and runner up in the 50 miler Greg Baynes
And show the great variety of bikes in the other classes.
Or wonder why you would do this? :-)
Or the rider's view?
This one is called; OK, there is no good place to crash, but some places are better than others.
The Mayor and Burt's Son John
The Hill Climb.
The Hill Climb doesn't offer the same spectacle as the flying sand so it's a solid shot of Ryan destroying the course record and some faces and around the pits. Good vertical shot is always handy for the mag layouts too.
Co-pilot took these two. I was on video.
The 'tards winner
The Long Track
More interest at the long track and more sideways and flying dirt.
I got solid images of a number of competitors but Watson was crossed up delightfully again.
And Andrew Aldridge was dominant in the Speedway Bike class.

Plus I have crowd shots for each of the five venues
Or try and include the crowd and action shot all in one.
The wide angle out of the go-pro worked pretty well too.

It was quite dark by the time the second round of races started at Oreti park. I had ISO cranked to over the 1000 mark to get enough light for some of the images.
A bad start, but the young fellow walked back to the pits under his own steam.
Grant has won the Solos 3 times in a row
It was getting very dark and photoshop to the rescue for the sidecars final win coming straight at the lens.
Fortunately I can use a flash when they've stopped racing.
The Sprint Races
Teretonga is a simple layout that affords a number of good photographing spots.
Show the size of the fields.
The crowd streaming in
and the diverse range of people and machines. I dig Inia's helmets.

The Street Races
Nice close to the action event.
By now I'm a big team Hampton Fan.
Lee Munro too.
And Chris Fisken put himself to the back of the field and won by a wheel.
